Staying Out of Debt

I have learned the hard way about debt and hope others will learn from my mistakes. I made many mistakes involving money and now I have finally straightened myself out financially. I understand now that money, when used and managed properly, can provide security. I have learned to live within my means. I have a budget for each month and I stick to it. Living on a budget forces me to consider the things that I do and don’t need. If I want something extra then I work extra hours or I save up for special purchases. I have also learned that other people have to also be responsible for their own finances. I have made poor decisions in helping others with their debt problems and have suffered financially for doing so. I have co-signed for people and have had to pay off the loan to protect my credit. Now, much older and wiser I realize that everyone must be accountable for their debts. Taking the initiative to get one’s finances in order is one of the best things you can do to improve your life.
